Exercise 1 (Dialogues in the Pictures of the Exercise)




Picture 1:



The Boy: بِكم هذا الدفتر؟

The Boy: Bi-kam haazaa ad-daftar?

The Boy: For how much is this notebook?




The Shopkeeper:بريالين.

The Shopkeepre: Bi-riyaalain.

The Shopkeeper:For two riyals.



The Boy: أريد سبعة دفاتر و خمسة أقلام حُمْرٌ.

The Boy: Oreedu saba'tha dafaatir wa khamsatha aqlaam humrun.

The Boy: I want seven notebooks and five pens of red(colour)

The Boy:علبة دبابيس و زجاجة حبر اسود.

The Boy: Ulbatha dabaabees wa zujaajatha hibr aswad.

The Boy: A box of pins and a bottle of black ink.

The Boy:مبراةً و ممحاة و عشرةَ ظروف.

The Boy:Mibraah wa mimhah wa asharatha zhuroof.

The Boy:A sharpener, and an eraser and ten envelopes.

The Girl:أريد سبعة دفاتر.

The Girl:بكم هذا القلم الأحمر؟

The Girl:Bikam haazaa al-qalam al-ahmar?

The Girl: For how much is this red pen?


The Shopkeeper:بريال.

The Shopkeeper: Bi-riyal.

The Shopkeeper: For one riyal.


The Girl:أريد خمسة أقلام.

The Girl: Oreedu khamsatha aqlaam.

The Girl: I want five pens.

The Girl: Ulbah dabaabees wa zujaajah hibr aswad.

The Girl: A box of pins and a bottle of black ink.

The Boy:سبعة دفاتر وخمسة أقلام .

The Boy: Sabatha dafaathir wa khamsah aqlaam.

The Boy:Seven notebooks and five pens.



The Father: و أنت يا أمل ؟

The Father: Wa antha yaa Amal?

The Father: And you,o' Amal?



Amal: سبعة دفاتر وخمسة أقلام.

Amal: Sabatha dafaathir wa khamsah aqlaam.

Amal: Seven notebooks and five pens.


Exercise 1 (Text part of the Exercise)

Listen to the Sentences and understand the meanings:

Arabic Text:
أمل تريد أدوات من المكتبة.

Read As: Amal thureedu adwaath min Al-Makthabah.

Meaning:
Amal wants things (stationary)from the book shop.



2)
Arabic Text:

و محمد يريد  أدوات من المكتبة.


Read As:
Wa Muhammad yureedu adwaath min Al-Makthabah.

Meaning:
And Muhammad wants things (stationary)from the book shop.

Arabic Text:

كتب محمد الأدوات في ورقة

Read As:
Kathaba Muhammad aladawaath fee waraqah.

Meaning: Muhammad wrote the things on a paper.


4)
Arabic Text:

و كتبت أمل الأدوات  في ورقة

Read As:
Wa kathabath Amal al-adawaath fee waraqah.

Meaning:
And Amal wrote the things on a paper.



5)
Arabic Text:

دخل محمد و أمل المكتبة .
Read As:
Dakhala Muhammad wa Amal al-Makthbah

Meaning: 
Muhammad and Amal entered the book shop.


6)
Arabic Text:
وجلس الأب في السيارة.

Read As:
Wa jalasa al-ab fis-Sayyarah.

Meaning:
And the father sat in the car.


7)

Arabic Text:
اشترى محمد سبعة دفاتر  وخمسة أقلام.
Read As:
Ishtharee Muhammad sab-áh dafaathir wa Khamsah aqlaam.

Meaning:
Muhammad bought seven notebooks and five pens.

وأخذت أمل سبعة  دفاتر و خمسة أقلام

Read As:
Wa akhazath Amal sabáh dafaathir wa Khamsah aqlaam.

Meaning:
And Amal took seven notebooks and five pens.

.اشترى محمد علبة دبابيس وزجاجة حبر.

Read As:
Ishtaree Muhammad ulbah dababees wa zujaajah hibr.

Meaning:
Muhammad bought box of pins and bottle of ink.

Read As:
Akhazath Amal ulbah dababees wa zujaajah hibr.

Meaning:
Amal took box of pins and bottle of ink.

Arabic Text:
اشترى محمد مبراة وممحاة.
Read As:
Ishtharee Muhammad mibraah wa mimhaah.

Meaning:
Muhammad bought a sharpener and an eraser.



12)
Arabic Text:

واخذت امال مبراة و ممحاة.

Read As:

Wa akhazath Amal mibraah wa mimhaah.

Meaning:
And Amal took the sharpener and the eraser.

Arabic Text:
اشترى محمد عشرة ظروف.
Read As:

Meaning:
Muhammad bought ten envelopes.

Read As:

Meaning:

ضحك الأب وضحك محمد وضحكت أمل.
Read As:
Dahika al-abu was dahika Muhammad wa dahikath Amal.

Meaning:
The father laughed, Muhammad laughed and Amal laughed.

Meaning:How many envelopes do you want?


Arabic text:

How to read: Ureedu khamsathah zuroof.
Meaning: I want five envelopes.

Meaning: How many plates do you want?

Meaning: How many knives do you want?

بخمسة ريالات 

Read as : Bi-kam zujaajah al-hibr? ......  Bi khamsah riyaalaath.
Meaning: How much does the ink bottle cost? .... Five riyals.



3)

بكم علبة الدبابيس؟

بأربعة ريالات 

Read as : Bi-kam Ulbah al-dab-baa-bees? ......  Bi arba-ah  riyaalaath.
Meaning: How much does the box of pins cost? .... Four riyals.



4)

بكم هذا الدفتر ؟

بسبعة ريالات 

Read as : Bi-kam haazihee al-dafthar? ......  Bi sabah riyaalaath.
Meaning: How much does the notebook cost? .... Seven riyals.





5)

بكَم هذه ممحاة؟

بثلاثة ريالات 

Read as : Bi-kam haazihee mimhaah? ......  Bi thalaathah riyaalaath.
Meaning: How much does the eraser cost? .... Three riyals.





6)

بكم هذه الظروف؟

بستة ريالات 

Read as : Bi-kam haazihee zuroof? ......  Bi sittah riyaalaath.
Meaning: How much do the envelopes cost? .... Six riyals.







Exercise 6

Look at the pictures and complete the sentences, then draw a circle around the appropriate picture (i.e. the Answer):







1) اشترى محمد  الظرف.

Ishtharee Muhammad Az-zarf.


Muhammad bought the envelope.



2) أخذت أمل الدبوس.

Akhazath Amal Ad-dabboos.


Amal took the Pin.



3)هذا الحبر أحمر.

Haazaa Hibr Ahmar.


This ink is red.



4)هذا صندوق أزرق.

Haazaa Sandooq Azraq.


This box is blue.
